Women’s Organizations in Dupont Circle

A Walking Tour

(9 Stops)

Women’s organizations have stood at the forefront of women’s movements and as agents of change in community and civic engagement. By the late 1800’s, women’s clubs became the major vehicle by which American women could shape the world beyond their homes. Many women’s organizations were founded either for suffrage or by suffragists. Washington DC – and the Dupont Circle neighborhood more specifically – is home to the headquarters of many organizations engaged in significant civic engagement. Each club, part of a network of state and local organizations, with members worldwide continues to provide practical training and support for women stepping in leadership roles in all sectors.
