About this event

  • 2 hours

Join us for a reception and SALUTE to DC Women Journalists, co-sponsored by the National League of American Pen Women, the National Women's Foundation, and the Ethel Payne Empowerment Foundation. Noted journalists such as jonetta rose barras, their descendants, and followers will share accounts of historic contributions of DC women journalists and meet the 2024 winners of the Ethel Payne scholarships.

The event will be hosted at the “first Whittemore House” – the home of the National League of American Pen Women, a group founded in 1897 by a group of 17 women journalists. All proceeds from the event will go to the Ethel Payne Empowerment Foundation to support scholarships for young women journalists in DC high schools in honor of Ethel Payne, known as the “First Lady of the Black Press.”
